Chris Hall Media making a promotional DVD

DVD production

CHRIS HALL MEDIA

Chris Hall Media have been busy making a Promotional DVD for a Barber Shop which specialises in scalp designs and people come from a wide area to have their hair designed by the Barbers.
Chris - Working the camera
The Promotional DVD will promote the company as tests and surveys show, people are more likely to view a DVD than read a leaflet. We are now in a televisual age and to be able to view a DVD instead of read a leaflet, obviously tells so much more.
Why not contact us at chris@thrillsandskillsforlife.com and have a DVD of your own company, organisation or product.

Outward Bound First Aid Courses

First aid
Don't
DSC02499
take our word for the quality of our courses, read a report from one of our customers:

A report from one of the outward bound cycle leaders at the Pioneering Care Partnership in Newton Ayecliffe:

Dear Chris,

May I through this email congratulate you, and thank you, for a first class, first aid course you led and that I was fortunate enough to attend on the 10th and 11th of December, held at the Pioneering Care Centre, Newton Aycliffe. From the start of the course to the finish the enthusiasm you showed and professionalism in which you led the course was infectious, you helped give me, and I am sure the rest of the group, the confidence to lead, and if necessary to administer first aid to our cycle group. Your obvious knowledge of the subject was very apparent, but the way you passed on this information to us was so well planned it was easy to digest.

May I wish you every success in the future and I will certainly recommend your team to others.

Regards.

Ken Cummings.

Gibraltar, Pioneering Care Centre and Go Ride

This week we have been teaching First Aid to Cycle and Walk leaders at the Pioneering Care Centre in Newton Ayecliffe. This is a centre that combines Cancer Care, a doctors surgery, a village hospital and a health centre all with an extra layer of sports groups and a cafe! It was Tony Blairs baby for his constituency and he was very proud of it. Thrills and Skills for Life have been tasked with training up teams with outward bound First Aid Skills. It is one of the many courses we run in the First Aid arena.

As you know we never sit still and we have been preparing the Gibraltar adventure weekend for St Augustine's Priory. This will take place in Feburary and included climbing the rock, a dolphin safari, an afternoon with the Gibraltar Regiment and the Icing on the cake an audiance with The Chief Minister of Gibraltar, a world Statesman.

Not satisfied with that we have been teaching Go Ride cycle training sessions on behalf of the NHS and the children completed the 6 week programme and all passed. We put this down to sheer effort and passion to succeed from both Instructor and student.

Outward Bound First Aid

Straight after Kenya we were straight back into teaching cycling at schools for GET ACTIVE part of the NHS PCT Durham and Darlington. Then later in the week we taught Outdoor First Aid to NHS Walk leaders. Its a first aid course which is designed for someone who works outdoors. It involves learning how to read maps, to keep your team safe in bad weather and how to find where an ambulance can get to and where to meet it. It also has lessons on how to use emergency shelters and the normal CPR training. Its an impressive package and at 60.00 per person a real bargain too!

Thrills and Skills in Kenya

Thrills and Skills have been in the Kenyan bush. We have taken a party through the bush and taught the group a lot of survival skills. W e also picked up a fair few too! We made water stills and burnt elephant poo! its not as strange as it sounds, you see it burns well for your fire and keeps mosquitos away. we walked and drove over 200 miles through the bush and learn't and experienced a great deal. We walked straight into the path of a buffalo. You have to back away slowly and get on to high ground. Its different with elephants, If a mother is with her babies she will feel threatened and charge. You cannot out run an elephant you have to drop items of your kit to sidetrack the elephant and then it takes its anger out on the kit.

We greatly respect nature and the wildlife and kept clear of it and watched from a safe distance, it was wonderful and we will never forget the experience.

Hamsterley Forest

While at the weekends we have been running Leadership Management and Survival Weekends during the week we have been running Cycle tours for the NHS Get Active Team. Last week we took a
tour through Hamsterley Forest. The Fourth most scenic road in the UK runs through there and we all cycled it and it truely is beautiful.

Leadership Management and Survival

For the last three weeks we have been running Leadership Management and Survival weekends in a variety of locations from Gloustershire on our training grounds to London school grounds for St Augustine's priory. The girls have really embrassed living off the land and built amazing shelters which they have slept in. They have also been catching, plucking, gutting then roasting pheasent and skinning rabbits then roasting them in rose hip syrup foraged from the wild. There was of course time for some play as they had a go on diggers and tractors on our land and some horse riding too!

Escorting School Girls up Craig Cau in North Wales

Somehow we managed to shoe horn in a trip to North Wales and climbed Craig Cau with the girls from St Augustine's priory in London. They did really well and Chris carried the safety kit and helped them with navigation and supported them when they needed help. The girls did really well and enjoyed themselves very much. On the second day we visited a Mountain Rescue centre and received demonstrations on rescue techniques and the routines and mobilisitaion that exists with these centres. Thrills and Skills for Life constantly learn new safety points and strive to be as safe as possible in any event.

Running Walking Tours for the NHS

We were recently asked to run a coastal walk in Sunderland for the NHS. It was a fantastic success and had a large turnout of people
in a broad age range, all of whom were keen to enjoy the splendid views and get or keep fit in an enjoyable and relaxing way. As you can see the views were just fantastic and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Trailfinding, Working with Schools in Durham, Preps for survival course

This week we have been more busy than our usual busy selves. We have been finding new trails along the Wear dale way for the Get Active NHS team and are working towards a book of routes for the NHS to help keep people active. These routes are a variety of gentle, adventurous, scenic and fast. Chris took a group on the Wear Dale way route and it was very much enjoyed with beautiful rivers and waterfalls, Angus bulls and cows and finishing in the lovely village of Willington.

We have also been working with primary
schools to teach them safe cycling for life. Increasing confidence, ability and above all safety on cycles are vital for young people, but, also the promotion of bike use to keep the countries future generation healthy.

Whilst all this has been going on we have been preparing for the survival and living off the land weekend course we are running this weekend for St Augustine's Priory Girls School in our training grounds in Dursley, near Gloucester.

Coast to Coast and the artist Andrew Small

We are very excited about organising and running the coast to coast challenge for a group from the north east containing a broad range of ages from pensioner to teenager. Although its not till next year we have started preparing already! It would be unthinkable for Thrills and Skills for Life to not be 100 percent prepared.

The ride is 147 miles long, which starts in the former coal mining and industrial lands of West Cumbria and ends in Roker in Sunderland.

A monolith marks the end of the route, Chris took a picture of it this week as he has been teaching some Kayaking on Roker beach. When he sees it after 147 miles i expect he will appreciate it even more!

The mirror polished Monolith, created by artist Andrew Small. Called Simply "C" has star constellations etched into its surface and is inspired by the 8 th century monk, Bede, who spent part of his time in Sunderland at Monkwearmouth Monastery.

The artwork is accompanied by various other works along the route to enhance and enrich the route for the last mile. It was all commissioned by Sunderland City Council.

Working with very positive disabled people, Preparing for the Bushcraft Course

At Thrills and Skills for Life, we were hugely privlidged this week to work with a disabled group. The group were so thrilled to be able to be taken Cycling and worked so hard to achieve their aim.........to cycle a bike. Something a lot of us take for granted. We genuinly felt humbled, the problems and difficulties they go through on a daily basis just to do normal things are massive and yet they are so positive. It made us realise how we are so lucky. We will continue to work with this group on behalf of the NHS Get Active team and look forward to the progress we can all make.
We even found time to give some Instruction on film camera use to our team

Thrills and Skills for Life and our sister company Chris Hall Media recently won a contract to make a Promotional film and Thrills and Skills for Life have won contracts to run a canoe trip for a week and a survival and bushcraft course.

Its all going from strength to strength here and we continue to work hard for you......our valued customers

Well what havn't we at Thrills and Skills For Life been up to in the last two weeks! Chris ran the Leadership and Management and Survival Skills course in the west Country for St Augustine's Priory Girls school.
It was a massive success and the girls really enjoyed themselves and learnt a massive ammount about Leadership, Management of your team, living off the land and themselves.

It was a real privlidge to teach them and work with the school, here are some of the girls comments:

"This is by far the BEST school trip we have ever been on, the perfect balance of Guidance and Independance and it was really fun"

"You are very perseptive and have been able to judge peoples characters and allow them to realise their strengths"

"Wow I mean I got to drive a tractor! when do you get to do that in London!"

Some of the wild
food found and produced by the girls and the shelters made of natural materials they found in the woods.
